Why you should dress up at home!

“You look nice, who did you dress up for?” is what you would hear every time someone thought you look a little better than you do on other days. Usually I would roll my eyes and answer with a “for me, myself, and I”, I don’t need to dress up for anyone other than myself, and neither should you. Which leads me into our topic of convo.

Given the current circumstances, and the stay at home orders, we have no where to go and no where to dress up for. Unless, of course, you’re an essential worker. But for all of us, now homebodies, we really don’t have anywhere to go (maybe the supermarket). Due to that, fashion becomes obsolete. I mean who really needs a club dress at the moment, or a nice tailored suit; not I that’s for sure. I can’t help it though, I love fashion, LOVE IT! I love the weird trends that come and go, the crazy outfits, and clothes that just don’t look wearable. One thing though, that I am big on, when it comes to fashion, is comfort. Who says you can’t look good and feel comfortable at the same time. I am from New York City, and as fashionable as I am, comfort is always a priority. From the top I am wearing, to my shoes, I make sure that I can work those heels for the next 10 blocks; till home do us part honey. Speaking of home, why should you stop being “fashionable” just because you’re at home? You see, when you wear the same sweats and t-shirt everyday, it seems fine for the first week, who cares you’re at home with no one to see you, but as the weeks go by you do become sluggish.

Do you know who sees you? You.

So why give up on yourself. You definitely were not this lazy when you knew you had to look your best for that job interview, or look cute for school, or a night out. Getting dressed up and feeling good is your effort towards a positive mentality.

As I mentioned before, I dress up for me, myself, and I. Now is the perfect time to go through your closet, and organize your clothes. Given that comfort is of subject, pick out what you think are your comfortable clothes you wear out, and turn them into your “stay at home” clothes (for now). It is important to feel good about yourself, for yourself, everyday, especially with what’s going on world wide. It may sound silly at first, and may seem pointless, but give it a try. Your mental health is influenced by your environment. People constantly preach positivity and how life changing it is to change your state of mind; they’re so annoying and cliché, but they’re not wrong. Therefore, if you wear the same outfit everyday, you can potentially end up in a weird state of mind, and you don’t want that for yourself. Whether you are working, currently jobless (hold on tight), studying, or going for a walk, change your damn sweats into another pair of sweats. It doesn’t matter what style you have, or if “fashion” isn’t of importance, the point is to wear something different, feel good, look nice, and to stay away from your “same shirt, new day” routine! Trust me, it’s a small step towards a better day.

Stay healthy and safe my friends.
