Whenever people ask me, what is the best solid advice you can give to someone, I tell them – wear sunscreen 24/7 365. No one will ever argue that advice. Any and every skin color needs protection. Skin cancer does not discriminate, and unfortunately can be diagnosed at any age and to any skin type, and gender.
So what are the benefits of sunscreen and why do we have to wear it all the time? Yes, you read that correctly, all the time, not only summer time. Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays – UVA and UVB rays. Can’t get any simpler than that.
UVA rays are commonly associated with skin aging; it causes premature ageing from fine lines, wrinkles, to age spots. UVB rays are commonly associated with sunburns (ouch). Both UVA and UVB rays are carcinogens (cancer-causing), which is why investing in a sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum protection against both types is important.
After reading that short bit, why wouldn’t you want to keep your skin healthy? May I add that being exposed to blue light (computers and phones) is damaging as well (get yourself some blue light blocking glasses)! Too much premature aging going on these days. I don’t know about you, but I want to look forever young and feel forever healthy. In this blog I won’t be diving into all the different types of sunscreens there are; for example, mineral, chemical, and zinc oxide. I will save that for another time, but I will share my current favorites that you can consider when buying a sunscreen. I will also include a bb cream and a powder that has SPF protection.
Stay Protected and remember that SPF 30+ is recommended!
