There is something about the summer that makes puff sleeves flirty and romantic.
The puff sleeve trend or as I like to call it, puffy sleeves, have been making several comebacks throughout the last few years. At this point you have definitely seen it on a few people; from the catwalk, to your office, and maybe even your closet.
Now let me be honest; do I think puff sleeves look good on every body type? No, I don’t. Puff sleeves can be overwhelming at times, and can either give you a wider appearance, or a shrunken one (yes a large sleeve can “minimize” your appearance). I love the trend but it was so hard for me to find a puff sleeve style that matched my body type; nonetheless I think I found one that can work for everyone.
Off the shoulder puff sleeves!
Here is why it can work for every body type:
First, It is not overwhelming! You only have a portion of the sleeve, not the usual whole length from shoulder to hand. That alone will not “widen” or “shrink” your appearance. Second, depending on your body type and shoulder length, you will not struggle with the puff sleeve falling off your shoulder (and constantly fixing it ugh lame) and/or having it too close to your neck (to the point where you don’t have a neck, yes a puff sleeve can shorten the appearance of your neck). Third, off the shoulder puff sleeves sit a little more differently than they would directly on the shoulder. They have a slight droop that is more appealing than a large poof by your ear – going back to the wider/narrow appearance that you want to avoid.
Little by little, starting with off the shoulder puff sleeves, you will be able to recognize what puff sleeve works best for you. My recommandation when starting off, besides off the shoulder, is, stay away from patterns, keep the design and color simple.
